Meningitis B - Outbreak - patient update

Meningitis B (MenB) – Vaccine Status Update
We are aware of recent reports regarding cases of Meningitis B (MenB) in Kent and understand this may be causing concern for parents and patients.
We would like to reassure our community that we are closely monitoring the situation and following guidance from UK Health Security Agency and NHS England.
MenB Vaccine – Who is eligible?
The MenB vaccine is part of the routine UK childhood immunisation schedule and is offered to:
  • Babies at 8 weeks, 16 weeks, and 1 year of age
Individuals outside of this schedule are not routinely eligible for the MenB vaccine on the NHS, unless they are in a specific clinical risk group.
Checking your child’s vaccination status
Your child’s vaccination status should be visible via the NHS App. You can also check their Personal Child Health Record (Red Book).
We kindly ask that you review these records before contacting the practice, as we are currently receiving a high volume of enquiries.
What should you do?
  • If your child is due or overdue a vaccine, please contact us to arrange an appointment
  • If your child is up to date, no further action is required
At present, there is no change to national vaccination guidance, and there is no recommendation for additional MenB vaccinations outside of the routine schedule.
If you have concerns about symptoms of meningitis (such as fever, rash, sensitivity to light, drowsiness, or neck stiffness), please seek urgent medical advice.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
